Project 3

A polyhedron is a slid 3 dimensional object with flat faces, straight edges ,and sharp corners or vertices .

-The polyhedron my group made was an Octahedron.

-A octahedron is a 3 dimensional object composed of eight equilateral triangles, four of which meet at each vertex.

-Or polyhedron has 6 vertices .
-In our polyhedron ornament we used the colors green and blue.

-The polygons used in or project where triangles and square .

Reflection

In this project my group made an octahedron which is a type of polyhedron. During this project I worked with Temmy, Kaitlyn ,and Laren . During class we spent around an hour working on the project and home I spent about an hour and  minutes .During this project I learned what a octahedron and what a polyhedron was. The most challenging thing about this project was putting together the pieces to make the octahedron  . Also reaching about polyhedrons and octahedrons was a little challenging .I enjoyed making the ornament and working with my group members . If I could change anything about the project it would be the materials , it might have been better with more materials.

Theorems Of Perpendicular Lines

Theorem 3.4: If two sides of adjacent acute angles are perpendicular, then the angles are complementary.
Theorem 3.3: If two lines intersect to form adjacent congruent angles ,then the lines are perpendicular.
Theorem 3.2: If two lines are perpendicular, then they intersect to form 4 right angles.
Theorem 3.1: All right angles are congruent.

Perpendicual , Parallel , and Skew Lines

Today I learned about parallel ,perpendicular and skew lines. I learned that lines that parallel lines are lines that lie in the same plane and do not intersect. Perpendicular lines are lines that intersect to form an right angle. Skew lines are lines that do not lie in the same plane and don't intersect . Parallel lines and skew lines are similar because they both don't intersect, but the difference is parallel lines lie in the same plane while skew lines don't. Also skew lines and parallel lines are different from perpendicular lines because they don't intersect ,while perpendicular lines are.

Law Of Syllogism

In an if-then statement the "if" of the statement is the hypothesis and the "then" statement is the conclusion. Two if-then statements that are put together are called a syllogism. The law of Syllogism states that if statement p, then statement q, and if statement q, then statement r. This shows that if p leads to q, and q leads to r , then p leads to r . So an example of a syllogism is , if its hot then I go outside, if I go outside then I go to the pool, so using a syllogism you would come to the conclusion that if its hot then I go to the pool .

Complementary Angles VS. Supplementary Angles

Complementary angles are angles that when added together have a sum of 90 degrees .While supplementary angles are angles that when added together have a sum of 180 degrees. So in both instances you add angles together but complementary angles sum is 90 degrees and supplementary angles sum is 180 degrees . I van remember the difference in the two by using the alphabet . Because the C in complementary comes before the S in supplementary, just like 90 comes before 180 in numbers .This week in Geometry I learned what adjacent angles are , which are angles that share a common side and vertex but no interior points .

Why Math !

Math has three door ways ,personal, practical , and spiritual. Math relates to me personal because when I grow up I want to be an engineer, and that career involves a lot of math . Math is practical because you need math to function in life . You need to know math to deal with money , or to find a certain day and how far away it is .Math connects to me spiritual through the bible , because you can use it to find out genealogy's and to find out how far apart each generation is , also you can use it to find out how many generations people lived. The one that stands out to me is the spiritual aspect ,because it helps me understand the bible and make connections with the bible . As my bible verse ,I chose Psalm 19:1-4 , it stands out to me because it shows craftsmanship, and how the things we learned today are valued , and having knowledge will come over time .I can relate this to math because over time you become knowledgeable about math ,and we learn it today because its important to our lives. Also it shows what you gain over time ,and in order to calculate days and nights using time.

Desmos Geo House !

Every line I used to construct is a line segment , because every line had to end somewhere or the lines of my house would go on forever and it wouldn't really look like a house. Such as one of the sides of the windows ,it is a line segment , if it wasn't it wouldn't meet the other sides of the window ,it would go on forever. All the angles on my house are right angles ,besides two .The two angles that are not right angles are acute angles, and they are the angles where the roof meets the top of the house . I used all my line segments in the negative y's ,though I used positive and negative x's. I did this because it was easiest to make my roof at the (0,0) point .The biggest challenge was making the roof , because the line was diagonal and not a straight line segment . While constructing this house I learned how to construct line segments on a calculator , also I learned how to use the Desmos calculator to build a house.

How Many Hand Shakes ?

The question to the "Hand Shake Challenge " was , how many hand shakes would take place if you had 6 people in a room and everyone shook hands once. The process I went to ,to find how many hand shakes would take place, is drawing pictures , I drew dots for people and connected every dot once . As doing this I found out that anytime there is a question regarding a triangular function ,which this is, the function will be the same .I also learned that ,if the function is a rectangular function it will have the same function ,except you don't divide by two . So this hand shake challenge will help me in the future because I can use it anytime I do rectangular and triangular functions.

Hello World !

Hello ! I'm Devyn. Right now the three most important things to me are God , Family ,and school .This year I'm excited about being at a new school and meeting new people . I'm anxious about basketball season starting . One thing you might not know about me is I have a sister ,and two little brothers.
